Flynn Hat Trick Lifts Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey to Sixth Straight Victory

WILKES-BARRE—The Colonels welcomed the Albertus Magnus Falcons to the Mohegan Sun Arena Saturday afternoon for a non-conference battle with the first-year program.

The Colonels (6-1) netted two goals in each period to down the Falcons (0-5-2) in 6-1 fashion.  Sophomore forward Donald Flynn (Randolph, NJ/) netted a hat trick in the affair.

Flynn struck first roughly halfway through the first period, scoring off of a power play thanks to an assist from sophomore forward Nick Fea (Oak Ridge, NJ/). Sophomore forward Tyler Barrow (Massapequa, NY/) put home another goal with assists from Fea and sophomore forward Phil Erickson (Eau Claire, WI/) around four minutes later to give the Colonels their eventual game-winning goal.

Flynn struck again with an unassisted goal eight minutes into the second period, while Fea followed up with another around two and a half minutes later thanks to an Erickson assist.  Sophomore forward Danny Reidel (Wayne, NJ) netted the Colonels first goal of the third period with help from junior defender Charlie Spetz (Oak Ridge, NJ).  The Falcons notched their first and only goal on the scoreboard two minutes later, but Flynn replied by completing his hat trick just shy of the 15-minute mark of the third period to conclude the scoring.

Sophomore goalkeeper Brandon Gordon (Sault Ste. Marie, MI/) recorded his first win of the season in goal, saving 20 shots in the one-goal performance.  The Colonels outshot the Falcons 38-21.

The Colonels hit the road next weekend for the Steve Hoar Tournament in Worchester, Ma.  The Colonels will face Suffolk University at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, November 30.  The result of that game will dictate whether they play in the consolation game or the championship game of the tournament on Sunday, December 1.   This is the first time the Colonels will meet Suffolk University.
