The Wilkes University men's and women's cross country teams traveled to DeSales on Saturday to compete in the MAC Cross Country Championships, with the men finishing in ninth place out of 14 teams and the women coming in 10th out of 14 teams.
The men's team was led by
Erik Karlsen (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) who ran a 31:01.60, good enough for 63rd place. Bob Carp finished in 75th place place (31:46),
Austin Loukas (Windham, Maine/Windham) finished in 77th (31:50.53) while
Michael Wintermute (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) was right behind in 78th (31:52.95) to round out the top four runners for the Wilkes men.
The women were once against led by sophomore
Michelle Wakeley (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) who cracked the top 10, finishing with a 25:35.99 for 10th place in the six kilometer run. For her efforts she received 1st Team All-MAC honors.
Olivia Waszkiewicz (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit) came in 57th with a 28:00.06, while
Molly McDonough (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) finished in 84th with a 30:23.03.
"I feel this was a great step in the right direction for our program," said head coach
Nick Wadas. The Wilkes cross country program is only in its second year after the revival of the program last season.
