The men's and women's tennis teams are no strangers to the NCAA Tournament as they will be making a combined seventh-straight appearance in the national event. The women's team will be making its fourth-straight trip, while the men clinched its third post season event.
The women will take on SUNY Geneseo at Denison University in Granville, Ohio, while the men will face Transylvania at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va. The women's match will be played on Thursday, while the men will play on Friday.
The Lady Colonels finished the regular season with a 15-4 overall mark and 6-0 Freedom Conference record and are currently ranked No. 14 in the region. The Lady Colonels have won their past six matches, all but shutouts except for two.
In singles play, Wilkes is a combined 76-28, including 33-1 in Freedom Conference play.
Melanie Nolt (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central), who plays No. 1, has the most wins on the team with 15, while
Katie Lynn (Berwick, PA/Berwick), who plays No. 2, has 14 this season. Nolt is 15-4 on the year, while Lynn is 14-1. Freshman
Alexis Donner (Belmar, NJ/Wall) is the only other player with double-digit wins with 10 with just four losses this season. Lone senior
Xiaoqiao Zhang (Zhengzhou City, China/Warren Hills (N.J.)) is 9-2 this year.
In doubles, the tandem of Lynn and Nolt are 8-2 this season at the No. 1 spot, while Donner and Zhang are 6-2 at the No. 2 position.
Michelle Knight (Roaming Shores, OH/Trinity) and
Rebekah Shanaman (Richland, PA/ELCO) are 7-3 at No. 3. As a team, the Lady Colonels are a combined 40-15 in doubles.
SUNY Geneseo, members of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is 16-2 on the year and started the season by winning its first 13 matches. No. 1 player Monica Vieth is 17-4 on the year, while Anna Lehet, who plays both No. 3 and No. 4, is a combined 19-2. Sarah Shields, who plays at No. 5 and 6, has the most wins on the team with 20 to go along with just one loss.
The Blue Knights will be making their second-straight trip to the NCAA's after defeating Ohio Northern in the first round last year in their first-ever appearance in the national event. The winner will take on host Denison the following day.
The Colonel men's team will head to Lexington with a 15-2 mark and winners of its past 11 matches, six of which have come by a shutout.
Wilkes has a combined 90-22 record in singles play and all six singles players have picked up at least 10 victories this season. Sophomore
Jeremy Nolt (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) leads the way with an 18-2 mark, primarily at No. 3, while
Wes McCollum (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) is 17-2 this season at both the No. 3 and 4 positions. Nolt currently has the team's longest win streak at 14, while McCollum has 13-straight victories.
In doubles play, McCollum and
Evan Katz (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) are 13-4 on the year, primarily at No. 3, while freshmen
Clarke Freeman (York, PA/Central York) and
Cesar Leon (Woodhaven, NY/Brooklyn Tech) are 13-5 at No. 2.
Chris Cozzillio (Harrisburg/Trinity) and Nolt, who play at the No. 1 spot, are currently 12-4 this season.
Transylvania is currently 12-5 on the year after winning the Heartland Conference. The Pioneers have won their last five matches, all by shutout except for one. Like the Colonels, Transylvania is no stranger to the NCAA's as it will be making is fourth-straight trip to the tournament.
The winner of the Wilkes/Transylvania match will take on Emory on Saturday.
