ANNVILLE, PA – Four Wilkes University men's tennis players were named to the 2012 All-Freedom Conference team as announced by the Middle Atlantic Conference office Monday afternoon. Among the four Colonels chosen, Wilkes' Steven Wilson (Bronx, NY/JFK) earned Rookie of the Year honors while head coach Chris Leicht was named Coach of the Year.

Wilson, a first team All-Freedom selection, becomes the fourth Colonel in the past 10 seasons to win the Freedom Rookie of the Year award after finishing 14-11 overall from the No. 1 and 2 singles positions in the Wilkes lineup. The Bronx, N.Y. native went a perfect 5-0 in Freedom play during his rookie campaign winning all five matches in straight set fashion.

Sophomore Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) joined Wilson on the first team finishing his second campaign in the Navy and Gold with a 16-10 mark from the No. 1 singles spot. Makos went 3-2 in Freedom matches. In doubles play, the Mansfield, Pa. native teamed with junior Clarke Freeman (York, PA/Central York) to go 10-7 at No. 1.

Freeman earned his second consecutive All-Freedom honor tabbed as a second team selection after going 20-6 at No. 4 singles for Wilkes. Freeman clinched the title for the Colonels with a 6-2, 6-0 win over King's Jake Rohring Saturday as Wilkes captured its fifth straight Freedom crown. In doubles play, Freeman and Wilson proved to be one of the best duos in the conference finishing 10-7 in Wilkes' top pairs position.

Freshman Zack Telljohann (Atlanta, GA/Westminster) rounded out the list of Colonels selected to the All-Freedom squads garnering a second team choice. Telljohann was stellar in his first year with the Colonels finishing with a 20-5 overall mark at No. 3 singles including a perfect 5-0 in league matches. The freshman teamed with Wilson to go 10-7 at No. 2 doubles.

Leicht earns his fifth Coach of the Year honors after leading Wilkes to a 14-3 overall record and fifth consecutive Freedom title and NCAA Tournament berth. Under Leicht's guidance, the men's squad went 5-0 in league matches allowing just three points over the five wins. He has coached 28 All-Conference selections and three rookies of the year including Wilson this season.
