KRISTOFCO, APPELLO NAMED FREEDOM CONFERENCE TENNIS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
 
ANNVILLE, PA – Wilkes University tennis standouts Ally Kristofco (Hollidaysburg, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) and Max Appello (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) have been named Freedom Conference Women's and Men's Tennis Players of the Week respectively as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

It marks the fourth straight week a Wilkes duo has swept the weekly awards.
 
Kristofco was perfect on the week from the No. 2 singles position finishing with a 3-0 mark for Wilkes (16-2). She started the week with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Muhlenberg's Jennifer Goldberg, then followed with straight set wins over Division II Bloomsburg University (6-2, 6-2) and 13th ranked Elizabethtown College (3-0, retired).
 
She teamed with Anna English at No. 2 doubles to go 3-0 on the week including a come-from-behind 9-7 win against Muhlenberg in the Lady Colonels 8-1 victory.
 
For the season, Kristofco posts an 18-2 mark from the No. 2 singles spot along with a 15-0 mark at No. 2 doubles alongside English.
 
Appello led the Colonel men (13-3) to a 2-0 week with wins over Bloomsburg (7-1) and Elizabethtown (5-4). He began the week with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles against Bloomsburg then followed with a straight set 6-3, 6-2 victory against Elizabethtown.
 
Just a freshman, Appello stands 22-2 overall on the year in singles competition going 8-1 in his last ten matches.
 
Both Kristofco and Appello will lead their top seeded squads in this week's Freedom Conference Tournament. The Lady Colonels host Stevenson University on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. with the Colonel men welcoming Arcadia University on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
