Sandra Bloomberg becomes the third former Wilkes great to be named to the MAC Hall of Fame BLOOMBERG ELECTED TO MAC HALL OF FAME 5/9/2013 9:55:00 AM (2013 MAC Hall of Fame Inductees) BLOOMBERG ELECTED TO MAC HALL OF FAME ANNVILLE, PA – Former Wilkes University basketball and field hockey great Sandra Bloomberg has been elected into the Middle Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame as announced by the conference office at the annual senior awards luncheon Tuesday afternoon at Lycoming College. Bloomberg joins 2012 honorees John Reese and Joseph Wiendl in the hall. Reese and Wiendl were Wilkes' first inductees for the inaugural class last year. The hall of fame was established to honor the MAC's 100th anniversary in 2012-13. Playing the only two varsity sports available for women at the time, Bloomberg was a seven-time letterwinner in basketball and field hockey. She was a three-time Wilkes Female Athlete of the Year, Women's Basketball MVP, and Field Hockey MVP. Her number 44 jersey was retired for both sports in 1971, one of only four individuals with a jersey retired in Wilkes history. After graduating from Wilkes, Bloomberg was the first coach for the women's tennis team, guiding the Lady Colonels to three Northeastern Pennsylvania Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Association titles. She was also head coach of the women's basketball team at Wilkes with her 1978 squad winning a then school record 12 games. Bloomberg, a Ph. D, was inducted into the inaugural Wilkes Hall of Fame class in 1993. She currently serves as the Dean of the College of Professional Studies at New Jersey City University. Print Friendly Version
