Four Wilkes Women's Wrestlers Break Into Regional Rankings
 
MANHEIM, PA – After opening the season with a positive showing at the East Stroudsburg Open and recording its first victory in dual match competition over Misericordia University, four members of the Wilkes University women's wrestling team broke into the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Regional Rankings as announced late Thursday afternoon.
 
Competing in NCAA Region I, Gabriela Vasquez (San Antonio, TX/Conerstone Christian Schools) ranked fourth at 103-pounds, Milly Hughes (Jefferson, GA/Jefferson) second at 138-pounds, Alyssa McIntosh (Easton, PA/Easton Area) fifth at 145-pounds and Carina Rivera (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) fourth at 180-pounds.

Vasquez took home fourth place at the ESU Open recording three wins on way to the top-six finish. She then added a forfeit win in the dual against Misericordia and stands 4-2 overall on the season.
 
Hughes also stands 4-2 overall on the year after picking up a technical fall in an exhibition match over Misericordia. McIntosh owns a 2-2 record after posting a technical fall in 2:23 in the dual win over Misericordia and added another technical fall in an exhibition over Lackawanna. Rivera rounds out the regional ranked wrestlers for the Colonels with a 4-2 record earning a fall in 1:38 against Misericordia in the dual and another fall in 1:03 over Lackawanna in an exhibition match.
 
The Colonels are back in action Sunday when they host the first annual Wilkes Women's Open at the McHale Athletic Center starting at 10:00 a.m.
