Koncelik scores another goal, adds assist in win

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Manhattanville scored early in the second half to break a scoreless tie, but the Lady Colonels stormed back with two unanswered goals to take a 2-1 Freedom Conference win over the Valiants. 
           
Kirsten Betsill scored at the 42 minute mark to give the Valiants the early lead with an assist from Maura Bruen on one of their seven shots on goal. Just over eight minutes later, Alyssa Koncelik (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) scored her team-high 11th goal of the season to tie the game at one. Koncelik's scored her unassisted goal by passing Manhattanville goalkeeper Lauren Gagnon on the right before her shot hit the back of the cage. 
           
The Lady Colonels had 19 total shots and 15 shots on goal, six of which came off the stick of Koncelik. Devon McKay (Secane, Pa./Christian Academy) had four total shots and three on goal and made one of them count as she scored the game-winner at the 58 minute mark on a pass from Koncelik. 
           
The win improved Wilkes to 12-1 overall and 3-0 in Freedom Conference play. The Lady Colonels will return home to face Eastern at noon on Saturday.
