James Humenansky (Wyoming, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) fired a shot from 25-yards out that found the back of the net in double overtime to give Wilkes a 2-1 win over DeSales. The win keeps the Colonels atop the Freedom Conference with a 4-0 mark.
The Bulldogs controlled most of the first half and took the early lead when Dustin Strum's roller to the left side found the back of the net at the 9:36 mark. DeSales held the lead until
Doug Moore (Doylestown, Pa./New-Hope Solebury)'s header off the pass from
Sean Vona (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) tied the match at the 83 minute mark.
The score would remain tied through the rest of regulation and beyond the first overtime before Humenansky's game winner came at the 102:03 mark.
The Colonels out-shot DeSales 16-13 and had six shots on goal to the Bulldogs' four. Moore had three of the six shots on goal for Wilkes, while DeSales' Derek Long had six total shots and one shot on goal.
Wilkes has now won three straight games and five of their last six contests. The Colonels will be back in action Saturday when they hit the road to face Alvernia at 3:30 p.m.
