Box Score

ERIE – Doug Moore (Doylestown, Pa./New-Hope Solebury) scored the game-winning goal in the sixth minute of overtime to give Wilkes a 2-1 win over PSU-Behrend in the opening game of the ECAC Championships.

The Colonels, seeded fifth in the tournament, had more shots (14-13) but had two less shots on goal but it didn't matter as they improved to 11-7-3 on the year with the win. The game marked the second-straight contest in which Wilkes has gone into overtime.

Neither team was able to score in the first half, but with less than nine minutes to play in regulation, Mike Seth gave PSU-Behrend a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal. Not to be outdone, defenseman Troy Gibson (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) scored on a pass from Moore 29 seconds later for his second goal of the season to tie the match. “I felt we were controlling the offensive possession, but we were having difficulty penetrating their back four,” head coach Phil Wingert said. “We put Troy up front and that gave us a 6-3 target player to go along with Doug Moore (Doylestown, Pa./New-Hope Solebury), who is over six-feet tall as well.”

Wilkes goal-keeper T.J. Baloga recorded eight stops on the day while PSU-Behrend's Dustin Walker came up with five saves.

The Colonels will wait for the winner of the Widener/King's matchup to see where they will be playing next. If King's wins, the Monarchs will host the semifinals and finals this weekend in Wilkes-Barre.
