HAZLETON – The Wilkes University men's basketball team knocked down 13 three-pointers en route to a 97-73 win over PSU-Hazleton. The win is the third-straight for the Colonels, who improved to 5-2 on the year.

“We cashed in on some open shots,” head coach Jerry Rickrode said. “Our strength, which is our inside game was taken away, but we were able to hit some shots from the outside.”

Kyle Ruby (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) and Chris Gulla (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) knocked down three three-pointers each, while freshmen Michael Donatoni (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) and Trey Tietz (Southington, Ohio/Chalker) had two a piece. Tom Kresge (Brodheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) led the way with 20 points, knocking down nine field goals, including two from beyond the three-point line.

Chris DeRojas (Kingston, Pa./Bishop O'Reilly), who leads the team in scoring, scored 15 points while Donatoni added 12. Five different players scored in double-figures for the Colonels, with Gulla and Steve Kline (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) scoring 11 and 10 points respectively.

The Colonels will return home on Jan. 3 to host the annual Wilkes-Barre Challenge featuring Elizabethtown, Ramapo and King's College.
