Box Score
CHESTER, Pa. – The Wilkes University men's soccer team won their second consecutive game by a score of 2-0, this time defeating the Widener Pride on Saturday night in Chester.
The win comes just three days after the Colonels traveled to Allentown and defeated Muhlenberg College by the same margin.
“It's always a good win when you are on the road,” stated head coach
Phil Wingert. “This is two in a row for us. We played hard and together and now we need to get ready for our next game against Dickinson.”
Wilkes would open up the scoring when junior
Bret Osswald (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) connected for a header that he buried in the top-left corner of the net off of a feed from fellow junior
Troy Gibson (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) at the 30:55 mark. The Colonels would take the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Shortly after the break, Wilkes would strike again, this time in the 50th minute when junior
Greg Miller (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood) took a feed from freshman
Ed Zulkoski (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) to make it 2-0 and give the Colonels some breathing room.
Wilkes and Widener both registered 10 shots in the game, while the Colonels held a slight 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper
TJ Baloga (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) made four saves to earn his second-straight shutout and third on the season. Pride goalkeeper Marty Squicciarini made three stops in the losing effort.
Wilkes will return to action on Wednesday when they play host to Dickinson College at 4 p.m.
