The Wilkes University women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision against non-conference foe Moravian College on a cloudy Saturday afternoon at Ralston Field. Wilkes sees their record fall below .500 to 3-4 while the Greyhounds now have a four game winning streak and improve their record to 5-1.
Moravian found the back of the net twice in the second half. Shannon McEvoy gave the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead off of a header with the assists being credited to both Diana Feldman and Arielle Caldas in the 59th minute. Moravian would extend the margin only 13 minutes later, when Kim Gogel served a corner kick that found Tracy Fitzpatrick, who struck a first-touch that found the back left-corner of the net.
Wilkes could only muster three shots on goal, and missed a couple opportunities on six corner kicks.
“We made two critical, fixable mistakes on our end today. Overall, we did some pretty good things today,” said head coach
John Sumoski.
Jessica Berkey (Johnstown, Pa./Richland), Wilkes' goalkeeper, and Caitlin Corrigan, Moravian's goalkeeper, both made three saves on the afternoon.
The Lady Colonel will travel to Annville on Tuesday for more non-conference action to take on Lebanon Valley College at 4 p.m.
