WILLIAMSPORT – The Wilkes University women's basketball team turned the ball over 31 times which proved to be the difference as Lycoming took a 64-54 win.
The Lady Colonels shot better from the field (37.5 percent to 32.9 percent), pulled down more rebounds (50-39) and had more opportunities from the free throw line (21-17), but a 10-1 Lycoming run late in the game all but vanished any chance of a comeback by Wilkes.
A layup by
Chelsey Gosse (Allentown, Pa./Dieruff), who led the Lady Colonels with 16 points and 13 rebounds, brought Wilkes within four (43-39) with 7:35 to go, but it would come no closer the rest of the way. They Lady Colonels scored just one point over the next three-and-a-half minutes and eventually fell behind 53-40 during that span.
Lycoming was able to take advantage of Wilkes' miscues, scoring 29 points off turnovers and hit 14-of-17 free throws. The Lady Colonels were not as fortunate, hitting just 11-of-21 from the charity stripe.
Mackensey O'Hara (Otego, N.Y./Unatego) added 12 points and seven rebounds, while
Samantha Simcox (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) pulled down 10 rebounds. The Lady Colonels have now lost three-straight games, moving to 8-8 overall and 3-5 in league play.
They will hit the road once again this weekend when they travel to face Eastern on Saturday at 1 p.m.
