The Wilkes University field hockey team visited FDU-Florham on Tuesday, and after a slow start ended up scoring five goals in the second period to defeat the Devils 5-0.
In the first period each team would put pressure upon the other, as both Wilkes and FDU shot three shots on goal, but after the first 35 minutes of play the score was tied 0-0.
In the second half
Amanda Tilley (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) broke the scoreless tie with an unassisted goal in the 41st minute, opening the floodgates for Wilkes. One minute later
Amanda Peters (Catasauqua/Catasauqua) put the Lady Colonels up 2-0, and in the 52nd minute
Cassie DiSabatino (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) found
Jennifer Keegan (Shohola, Pa./Delaware Valley) for the third score of the game. Jenna DeSabatino and
Amanda Peters (Catasauqua/Catasauqua) would add a goal a piece before the contest was over, making the final score 5-0 in favor of the Lady Colonels.
Goalie
Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) recorded her third shut-out of the season in the contest, saving eight Devil shots.
With the victory the Lady Colonels advance to 11-2 on the season and 3-1 in Freedom Conference play. Their next game will be home against Manhattanville on Saturday, Oct. 17. That game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
