The Wilkes University women's basketball team challenged Guilford in the consolation game at the Frostburg State Tournament on Saturday, ultimately falling to the Quakers by a score of 68-54.
The Lady Colonels hit on nine of their 23 shots in the first half, including two three-pointers, but Guilford hit 15 shots, five of which were threes. After one half Wilkes found itself down 36-24.
In the second period the Lady Colonels hit 12 shots, four of which were from three-point land, but costly turnovers hurt Wilkes down the stretch. Wilkes scored 30 points in the half, but surrendered 32 to the Quakers while losing its second game in a row.
On the day Wilkes shot 37% from the field, but connected on less that 50% of its free throws. The Lady Colonels also turned the ball over 27 times. Wilkes was led by sophomore
Lindsey Gosse (Allentown, Pa./Allen), who recorded 14 points and seven rebounds on seven of 12 shooting from the floor. Freshman
Amanda Pawlowski (Nanticoke, PA/Holy Redeemer) chipped in 12 points of her own, including two three-point buckets.
For her efforts, Gosse was named to the All-Tournament team, recording 20 points and 17 rebounds in the two game span.
The Lady Colonels will come home and prepare for their next matchup against Marywood in Scranton, Pa. on Tuesday, Nov. 24. That game will begin at 6:00 p.m.
