Box Score
The Wilkes University men's soccer team headed to Dallas, Pa. to take on Misericordia on Wednesday, ultimately falling to the Cougars by a score of 3-2 after leading 2-0 at halftime.
Wilkes played at Dallas earlier in the season, falling to the Cougars by a score of 3-0 in a game which saw only one shot on goal by the Colonels.
The Colonels established the fact that this was different than their first meeting with Misericordia, as in the first five minutes Wilkes grabbed an early lead on a penalty kick by
Greg Miller (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood). With ten minutes left to go in the half, Miller scored again on a dual assist by
Tom Joyce (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) and
Arthur Jankowski (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood), putting Wilkes up 2-0 going into the break.
In the second period the game changed completely, and in the 52nd minute Misericordia's Nick Ferguson found Joey Scanlon for the Cougars' first score of the game. Eighteen minutes later the same duo hooked up again, tying the match at 2-2. The score would remain that way for the rest of regulation.
In the first overtime Misericorid fired two shots, the second of which was taken by Kevan Nagle who found the back of the net, ending the game as well as the season for Wilkes.
The Cougars out-shot Wilkes on the day 17-5, while goalie
Kaleb Smith (Beavertown, Pa./Medd-West) recorded eight saves in the match.
With the loss the Colonels end their season at an 8-9-1 mark.
