ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Wilkes University had five players score in double-figures, but it wasn't quite enough as Shenandoah pulled out a 76-69 win over the Lady Colonels in the first round of the R1 Sports Blue Jay Classic hosted by Elizabethtown.

Lyndsay Ellis (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) led the way for the Lady Colonels with a season-high 16 points, while Sam Lynam, Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer), and Whitney Connolly (Liberty, PA/Liberty) each had 12.

The Lady Colonels opened the game with a 10-4 run, but saw the advantage quickly evaporate as Shenandoah countered with a 13-5 run to lead 17-15 with just over 10 minutes to play in the first half. Shenandoah would not lose the lead the rest of the way.

Wilkes would tie the game three times in the first half, the last coming when Brittany Ely (Montrose, Pa./Montrose) drained a three-pointer with 3:51 to go before the break to even the score at 31. Ely finished with 11 points on the night to go along with three assists. Shenandoah would eventually take a 37-33 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Lady Colonels pulled within one (46-45) with 14:51 to go after Kazmerski made a layup, but they would get no closer the rest of the way. Shenandoah led by as many as 14 with 5:36 to play, but Wilkes used a 17-6 run down the stretch to pull within three with 1:18 to go, but Shenandoah made six free throws in the final minute to play to seal the win.

Wilkes fell to 2-8 on the year while Shenandoah improved to 4-4 this season.
