Box Score
The Wilkes University women's basketball team hosted FDU-Florham on Friday night, and after a slow first half made a strong comeback that ultimately fell short in their second Freedom Conference game, 54-45.
In the first half the Lady Colonels jumped out to an early 6-2 lead, but in the last 16 minutes of the period Wilkes scored only three points to fall behind 26-9 at the break. The Lady Colonels shot only 13% in the half, including 0-12 from the three-point line.
In the second half Wilkes came out with a different mentality, narrowing the deficit to six points late in the period on multiple three-pointers by Sam Lynam and interior baskets by
Lindsey Gosse (Allentown, Pa./Allen). Unfortunately for the Lady Colonels their efforts fell short and free throws from the Devils kept the lead out of reach.
Wilkes was led by
Whitney Connolly (Liberty, PA/Liberty) and Lynam, who scored 11 points a piece in the game.
Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) pulled down nine rebounds for the Lady Colonels, while
Lyndsay Ellis (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) dished out three assists and had two steal on the day.
The Devils were led by Danielle Michlovsky with 22 points and 18 rebounds.
With the loss the Lady Colonels fall to 1-6 (0-2) on the season, and will look to turn things around when they travel to Clarks Summit next Monday to take on Baptist Bible. That game will begin at 7:00 p.m.
