SELINSGROVE – The Wilkes University volleyball team had a tough first day at the Susquehanna Tournament as it fell to host Susquehanna and FDU-Florham 3-0.

In the first match, the Crusaders took a 25-17, 25-16 and 25-20 win, despite a .410 hitting percentage by the Lady Colonels. Wilkes committed just nine errors in the match, but Susquehanna put down 35 kills while the Lady Colonels tallied 25. Defensively, Susquehanna had 64 digs to Wilkes' 42.

Marissa Harrison (Shavertown/Lake-Lehman) led the way for Wilkes with 10 kills with just one error, while Kate McGurk (Swarthmore/Ridley) had seven. Allison Kelleher (Sayre, Pa./Athens Area) had 14 digs to lead the Lady Colonels while Julie Page (New Milford, Pa./Blue Ridge) had two of the team's five service aces.

Susquehanna had 10 service aces in the match and had nine total team blocks to improve to 8-8 on the year.

In the second match, FDU-Florham took a 25-15, 25-15, 25-16 win, marking the second time they have defeated the Lady Colonels. The Devils took a 3-1 win in Wilkes Barre earlier this season.

The tournament will continue tomorrow where Wilkes will take on Franklin & Marshall as well as St. Mary's (Md.).
