The Wilkes University women's basketball squad had a tough night shooting as it hit 27 percent from the field while turning the ball over 18 times which led to a 58-41 Lycoming victory. The Warriors had three players score in double-figures with Gina Manbeck leading the way with 14 points.
The Lady Colonels on the other hand, had eight different players score, none of which reached double figures as
Amanda Pawlowski (Nanticoke, PA/Holy Redeemer),
Lyndsay Ellis (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) and
Lindsey Gosse (Allentown, Pa./Allen) each put in eight.
Both teams struggled from the field to start the game until Manbeck drained a three-pointer at the 16:39 mark to give the Warriors a 5-2 lead. Gosse would eventually tie the game at six after making a layup two minutes later. The teams would exchange buckets until Erin Connaghan made a layup with 10:48 to go in the half, giving Lycoming a 14-12 lead. It would not trail the rest of the way. The Warriors would close out the half with a 13-5 run and led 33-21 at the break.
The second half saw the Lady Colonels jump out to a 9-0 run to close the gap to 33-30 with 18:18 to go after Ellis made a pair of free throws. The momentum wouldn't last long as Lycoming used a 16-4 run over the next seven minutes to lead 49-34 with just over 10 minutes to play.
After Wilkes' 9-0 run to start the half, it would make just three more field goals the rest of the period and scored 11 points over the final 17 minutes of the game.
The Lady Colonels fell to 3-15 on the year and will look to bounce back this weekend when they travel to play FDU-Florham at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Madison, N.J.
