Box Score

The Wilkes University women's basketball team headed to FDU-Florham to take on the Devils Saturday, ultimately falling by a score of 66-46 in Freedom Conference play.

The game began with the Devils going on a quick 7-2 run out of the gate, and Wilkes worked to keep the game close. With 10:59 left FDU had established an 11 point lead, and for the nest five minutes each team went cold, making for a low scoring affair in the first period. The Devils retained that lead through the rest of the half as the Lady Colonels struggled from the three point line as well as free throw line. Lyndsay Ellis (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) hit a three right before the break to make the score 31-19 at the half.

Ellis led the Lady Colonels in the half with eight points, while Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) chipped in four of her own. Wilkes shot 33 percent from the field in the period, while FDU was able to hit on 44 percent of its shots from the floor, and 60 percent from three. The Devils also had over twice as many rebounds as the Lady Colonels.

The second half began with Amanda Pawlowski (Nanticoke, PA/Holy Redeemer) hitting two free throws to bring the deficit to 10, and the teams exchanged baskets soon after, with the Devil lead fluctuating between single and double digits over the next few minutes.

With 8:07 left Whitney Connolly (Liberty, PA/Liberty) brought the deficit to seven points with two free throws, the closest the Lady Colonels had been in the period. FDU quickly answered though, taking advantage of Wilkes turnovers and pushing the lead back to 15 points with six minutes left to play. The Lady Colonels were unable to mount a surge to get back into the game as the clock winded down, as the Devil lead only increased with the game ending in their favor, 66-46.

The Lady Colonels were led by Kazmerski with 12 points, while Ellis ended with nine and Connolly chipped in six. Wilkes shot under 35 percent from the field and was out rebounded 47-27 in the contest. Danielle Michlovsky had 15 points and 17 rebounds for the Devils.

Wilkes will look to regroup and get back on track when it heads to Misericordia to take on the Cougars on Wednesday, Feb. 3. That game will begin at 6:00 p.m.
