COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The No. 15 Wilkes University wrestling team won all four of its matches at the North South Duals in dominating fashion as the Colonels out-scored their opponents 152-26 to improve to 15-2 on the year.
Four different wrestlers went 3-0 on the day for Wilkes, including
Frank Heffernan (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh), who picked up his 100th, 101st and 102nd wins of his collegiate career. Heffernan, ranked No. 10 nationally at 174, could move up in the national rankings as he defeated No. 6 Greg Hurd of Wesleyan 3-0.
In his first contests as a collegiate wrestler, football standout
Kevin Gerhart (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin) made his presence known as he won all three of his matches at 184. Gerthart was recently named to the All-MAC first team as a defensive back as well as All-ECAC after leading the conference in tackles.
Kris Krawchuk (Slatington, PA/Northern Lehigh) at 141, as well as
Zach Pizarro (Easton, Pa./Easton), who is ranked No. 8 at 197, also went 3-0 on the day.
Three other Wilkes wrestlers went 2-0 on the day with
Nathan White (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill) and
Anthony Dattolo (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) posting wins at 149, while
James Histed (Lake Ariel, Pa./Bishop O'Hara) won at 157.
The Colonels opened with a 50-4 win over the United State Coast Guard Academy where they posted five pins in the match. Wilkes followed that performance up with a 39-4 victory over McDaniel where they tallied two pins. The Colonels would go on to beat Central Iowa 36-6 before ending their day with a 27-12 win over No. 19 Wesleyan.
Wilkes will be back in action on Friday when it competes in the Budd Whitehill Duals in Williamsport.
