WILKES-BARRE –
TJ Brandt (Bloomsburg, Central Columbia) goal early in the second period proved to be the difference at the Ralston Athletic Complex on Saturday, as Wilkes defeated Manhattanville 1-0 in Freedom Conference Play.
Kaleb Smith (Beavertown, Midd-West) had 13 saves in the game.
In the first period Manhattanville pressed the Wilkes defense, which bent but never broke in the period. The Valiants rattle off 10 shots, five of which were saved by Smith.
In the second period Wilkes had its golden opportunity and converted, as
Joe Brennan (Oakdale, CT, Montville) found Brandt on a direct kick, and Brandt headed it in for the lone score of the game. The rest of the period Wilkes fended off multiple attacks from the Valiants, continuously clearing the ball and counting on eight saves by Smith in the half.
Brandt scored his fourth goal of the season in the contest, while Smith had 13 crucial saves for the Colonels.
Wilkes will look to keep things going when they host Lycoming on Wednesday, Oct. 27. That game will begin at 7:00 p.m.
