WILKES MEN’S SOCCER ENDS SEASON WITH LOSS TO MISERICORDIA

WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University fell to Misericordia University 4-0 in late night Freedom Conference men's soccer action at the Ralston Athletic Complex. The game was the regular season finale for both teams.

The Cougars got on the board quickly, scoring in the third minute as Dan Pinto found the back of the net from 30 yards out.

The Colonels then held Misericordia scoreless until the second half, before Andy Bush put one past Kaleb Smith (Beavertown, Midd-West) in the 48th minute, putting the Cougars up 2-0. Misericordia got two more goals in the 53rd and 63rd minutes, taking home the four-goal win.

The Colonels end their season 5-14, going 2-5 in the conference, with a mostly freshman lineup. Michael Turner (Hudson, Coughlin), one of those freshmen, started all 19 games and led Wilkes with eight goals and 18 points. Ed Zulkoski (Mountaintop, Crestwood) finished second to him in both categories, with five goals and 13 points. Smith started 17 games in goal, posted 107 saves and earning two shutouts with a 2.39 goals against average.
