WILKES-BARRE –
Michael Turner (Hudson, Coughlin) scored both of the Colonel goals and
Kaleb Smith (Beavertown, Midd-West) had five saves as Wilkes grabbed its second win of the year Saturday, defeating Lebanon Valley 2-0 at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
Turner first struck in the 20th minute, dribbling by the Dutchmen goalie and sliding a shot to the opposite side of the goal on a pass from
Tyler Young (Chambersburg, Chambersburg). Lebanon Valley put plenty of pressure on the Colonels, but couldn't answer in the first half.
In the second period Turner found the back of the net again, dribbling around the Lebanon Valley goalie on a breakaway and giving Wilkes a 2-0 lead less than two minutes into the half. The rest of the game was all about Wilkes defense, as
Kaleb Smith (Beavertown/Midd-West) saved four shots in the second period alone.
Turner scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season in the game, while Smith ended up with five saves.
The Colonels will look to keep their winning streak alive when they host PSU Hazleton on Thursday, Sept. 30. That game will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
