WILKES MEN'S SOCCER DROPS 5-1 DECISION AT DESALES

CENTER VALLEY, PA – Host DeSales University scored twice in the first half, then added three more goals in the second frame to post a 5-1 Freedom Conference victory over visiting Wilkes University Tuesday afternoon in men's soccer action.

With the defeat Wilkes falls to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in league play. DeSales improves to 11-2-1 overall and remains perfect at 3-0 in conference matches.

DeSales Tyler Nolan put the Bulldogs up early with a goal at the 30:27 mark of the first half. The lead grew to 2-0 just 1:05 later when Jonathan Balfour notched his eighth tally of the season on a penalty kick.

Luke Dombert (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) cashed in on his first goal of the year off an assist from Ed Zulkoski (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) before the break at the 42:09 mark to cut the deficit in half, 2-1.

The Bulldogs used three unanswered goals in the second stanza at 51:28, 55:47, and 71:43 respectively to put the contest out of reach.

DeSales held a slight 15-13 shot advantage while garnering seven corner kicks to Wilkes' one attempt. Colonels goalie Kyle Romm (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll), making his second consecutive start, finished with two saves in net. Stephen West (Allentown, PA/William Allen) entered in relief of Romm playing the final 11:33 of the match. DeSales keeper Colin Sulpizio made two stops to record the win.

Wilkes will return to action Saturday when the Colonels travel to Purchase, N.Y. to face Manhattanville College in a Freedom matchup scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
