WILKES MEN'S SOCCER FALLS SHORT AT MANHATTANVILLE, 3-2

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Keston George scored two goals, including the game-winner late in the second half, to lift host Manhattanville College to a 3-2 Freedom Conference victory over Wilkes University Saturday afternoon.

Wilkes falls to 5-8 overall and 1-3 in Freedom play. Manhattanville improves to 11-3 overall and 3-1 in conference matches.

Manhattanville took a 1-0 lead into the half thanks to a goal from Daniel Carlryd off an assist from George at the 15:53 mark.

The Valiants lead grew to 2-0 at 52:14 when George cashed in on his first tally of the contest. Wilkes TJ Brandt (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia) cut the deficit in half with a header goal off a Tyler Young (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) corner kick at 56:12. George then added his second strike of the second frame, this time off a helper from Carlryd to put the Valiants up 3-1 with just under 20 minutes to play.

Michael Turner (Hudson, PA/Coughlin) kept Wilkes alive with a sharp angled shot from the top of the box that beat Manhattanville keeper Jason Torres to the high left corner at the 75:47 mark. Wilkes was unable to find the equalizer as the teams battled through the final ten minutes of play.

Manhattanville held a 24-8 shot advantage while garnering 12 corner kicks to Wilkes' two attempts. Patrick Loube (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) made seven saves in net for the Colonels, while Torres finished with two stops to record the win for the Valiants.

Wilkes will return to play Wednesday when they host cross-town rival King's College for a Freedom matchup scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
