WILKES MEN'S SOCCER DROPS 2-0 DECISION AT LYCOMING

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Host Lycoming College scored one goal in the first half, then added a second insurance tally in the second frame to post a 2-0 shutout win over visiting Wilkes University in non-conference men's soccer action Wednesday afternoon at the Shangraw Complex.

Following the defeat, Wilkes slips to 6-10 overall. Lycoming improves to 9-7-2 on the year. It marked the final non-league matchup for the Colonels in 2011.

Pat Marion put Lycoming up early with a goal at 2:24 off a long free kick that he put home past Colonel keeper Patrick Loube (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown). Matt Snively added the insurance tally in the second half at 67:44 off an assist from Trevor Bishop when he ripped a bullet into the upper left corner of the goal.

Wilkes controlled the play in their offensive end throughout outshooting Lycoming 14-13 in the contest. The Colonels were unable to take advantage of their scoring opportunities creating two corner kicks to Lycoming's three attempts.

Loube finished with five saves in net for Wilkes, while Nick Bruno made seven stops to record the shutout for Lycoming.

Wilkes will conclude their 2011 slate Saturday with a Freedom matchup against Eastern University at Schmidt Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
