WILKES WOMEN'S SOCCER DEALT 3-0 LOSS AGAINST EASTERN
 
EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting Eastern University used three first half goals to post a 3-0 shutout victory over Wilkes University on a cold night Sunday at Schmidt Stadium.
 
With the loss Wilkes falls to 8-5-3 overall and 4-1-2 in Freedom play to conclude their regular season slate. Eastern improves to 11-5-2 overall and 6-1 in league matches. The win propels Eastern to the second seed and Wilkes to the third seed in this week's Freedom Conference Tournament.
 
Eastern took an early 1-0 lead when Kelsey Doutrich scored unassisted at 12:25. Four minutes later, Tess Beckwith made two Lady Colonel defenders miss and beat keeper Sam Lindo (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) on a breakaway to up the lead to 2-0. Michelle Brown extended the lead to 3-0 before the half putting home a Kristine Zeiset rebound in the back of the net.
 
Wilkes was unable to garner many scoring chances in the second half as the two teams went scoreless over the final 45 minutes of play.
 
Eastern held a 18-7 shot advantage while garnering eight corners to Wilkes' two attempts. Lindo finished with six saves, while Eagles goalie Alysia Goodman made six stops to record the win in net. Haley Kay entered in relief posting two stops in 25:02.

Prior to the contest, Wilkes honored its three senior members, Maura Kelly (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin), Ashley Thorpe (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall), and co-captain Megan Clementson (Frederick, MD/Tuscarora) for all their hard work and dedication to the Lady Colonels program over their four year careers.

Kelly has anchored a solid Lady Colonel defense for the past four seasons playing in 58 matches while earning 27 starts. She posted her only career point as a defender last season tallying one assist. A Psychology major with a minor in Neuroscience, Kelly plans on attending graduate school for health and clinical psychology following graduation. 

Thorpe has played in 52 matches earning 25 starts. She primarily has seen most of her action in the midfield totaling two career goals recording her first career point as a sophomore. A Business Administration major with a minor in Marketing, Thorpe plans on living in New York City working for a Marketing company but has not ruled out graduate school following graduation. 

Clementson has been a vital part of the Lady Colonels program for the past four years playing in 74 games while earning 50 starts. She has totaled seven goals and one assist including two game-winning goals during her sophomore campaign. Clementson has played in multiple positions for Wilkes including time in the midfield and as center back. An Elementary Education Major with a concentration in Early Childhood development and a minor in Reading, she plans on becoming an elementary teacher in Maryland and start coaching soccer following graduation. 
 
#3 Wilkes will travel to #2 Eastern Wednesday in the semifinals of the Freedom Conference Tournament. Game time will be announced tomorrow.
