WILKES MEN'S SOCCER RALLIES PAST FDU 3-0 IN FREEDOM PLAY

EDWARDSVILLE – Hamad Alkandari (Kuwait City, Kuwait/Abdullah Jaber) scored one goal and added an assist to lead Wilkes University to a 3-0 shutout win over visiting FDU-Florham Saturday night from Schmidt Stadium.

Wilkes improves to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in Freedom play. FDU drops to 5-9 on the year, 1-1 in league matches.

Ed Zulkoski (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) gave Wilkes a 1-0 lead just 9:41 into the first half when he was awarded a penalty shot after being fouled in the box. Zulkoski went inside right post beating Devils keeper Tim Kirk for the goal. Just before the end of the first frame, the Colonels struck again, this time a through ball from Alkandari to Jason Kieffer (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) who found the back of the net to extend the lead to 2-0 at 43:54.

Alkandari added an insurance tally at the 72:47 mark when Nicholas Patricia (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) played a fine cross to a wide open Alkandari who went inside left post to seal the conference victory for Wilkes.

FDU held a slight 18-10 shot advantage, while Wilkes garnered seven corner kicks to FDU's six attempts. Colonels keeper Kyle Romm (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll), making his first career start, finished with eight saves to record his first career shutout in net. Kirk made one stop for FDU.

Wilkes will return to the pitch Tuesday with a road matchup at Freedom rival DeSales University at 4:00 p.m. from Center Valley, Pa.
