WILKES WRESTLING GOES 3-1 AT JOHN REESE DUALS

WILKES-BARRE – The #12 Wilkes University wrestling team finished 3-1 at the John Reese Duals Saturday afternoon in the Marts Center. The Colonels posted wins over #13 Centenary College, New York University and Plymouth State University. Wilkes lone loss came against #9 Cortland State in their second match of the dual tournament format.

Wilkes cruised to a 27-16 win over #13 Centenary in their first match of the day. At 125, Michael Fleck (Easton, PA/Wilson Area) took a technical fall over Alex Reeves, 17-0. Myzar Mendoza (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) grabbed a 5-2 decision over Adam Swift at 133, while Ryan Wilson (Manasquan, NJ/Wall Township) posted a 7-5 decision against Craig Montgomery at 141. Anthony Dattolo (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) continued to stay unbeaten on the season with a major decision over Don Miller at 149. Dustin Stough (Friendsville, MD/Northern Garrett) (174) and David Oberrender (197) each pinned their opponents in their respective matches. Stough finished things off in 5:55, while Oberrender down his man in 5:13.

In a 38-9 victory over NYU, Wilkes took eight wins including four pins and one major decision. Fleck, Mark Uliano (Hazle Township/Hazelton) (133), and Jeff Peterson (Edison, NJ/Edison) (141) all scored decision wins. Raymond Dungee (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) grabbed a major decision victory (13-4) at 184. John Lynch (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley) (149), Tyler Lauchaire (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) (157), Oberrender, and Jon Slack (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills) (285) all pinned their opponents.

In the 33-15 win over Plymouth State, Wilkes scored six wins including pins from Mendoza, J. Peterson, Brandon Dixon (Factoryville, PA/Lackawanna Trail), and Oberrender. Fleck posted a technical fall at 16-1, while Dattollo grabbed a major decision in his match by the score of 13-0.

In the loss against #9 Cortland (27-16), Wilson scored a pin at 141 over Edwin Perry in 6:07. Dattollo took a 4-3 decision against Andre Berry.

#12 Wilkes will return to the mat Friday when the Colonels host Elizabethtown College in their Metropolitan Conference opener in the Marts Center at 7:00 p.m.
