WILKES WRESTLING FALLS AT ESU, 23-14

EAST STROUDSBURG, PA – The No. 12 Wilkes University wrestling team fell 23-14 at Division II East Stroudsburg University Monday night in dual match competition from Koehler Fieldhouse.

With the loss Wilkes slips to 4-2 overall in dual matches, while ESU improves to 1-0 in their home opening match.

After East Stroudsburg took the first four bouts to take a 17-0 lead, the Colonels responded taking four of the next five bouts as heavyweight Jon Slack (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills) started the Wilkes rally with a 6-0 decision win over Zachary Koller. Michael Fleck (Easton, PA/Wilson Area) continued his fine wrestling at 125 with a major decision over Chris Davis, 13-5. Myzar Mendoza (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) kept the Wilkes rally going with its second major decision at 12-3 over Zach Jones to bring the Colonels to within six at 17-11.

Senior All-American Anthony Dattolo (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) kept his undefeated season alive (9-0) with a 5-2 decision over Andrew Ritchie, but two more ESU decision wins sealed the dual match victory for the Warriors.

Wilkes will be idle until December 2 and 3 when they travel to Grantham, Pa. to compete in the Messiah Petrofes Invitational.
