WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University got two wins by forfeit and split the 10 total matches as the 13th-ranked Colonels tied with rival King's College in a Metropolitan Wrestling Conference matchup on Friday night at the home of the Monarchs.

Wilkes led 22-19 heading into the final bout at 197. D.J. Brown got up early 2-0 with a takedown, but the Monarchs Peter Dwyer escaped out of it and got a takedown of his own to take a 3-2 lead into the second period. Dwyer picked up another point with an escape after choosing to open the second on the bottom. He closed it out in the third, getting a takedown at 1:44 to get the 6-2 decision and tie the score at 22.

The night started with the heavyweights, as Chris Smith (Wantage, NJ/High Point) took a 2-0 decision over Anthony Corigliano. Anthony Peterson (Edison, NJ/Edison ) then dominated Ricky Dorsey at 125, getting a 14-0 major decision. Only able to get a two-point takedown in the opening period, he followed that up with an escape, takedown and three-point near fall in the second period, rolling to the easy win and putting the Colonels up 7-0.

A pin by Michael LaPorta at 133 narrowed the Monarchs gap to 7-6 before a forfeit put Wilkes up 13-7. King's responded with two straight wins, including a major decision at 157, to take a one-point lead with four bouts remaining.

Ben Marich (Kempton, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) took a 7-0 win over Frank Marinucci to get the Colonels back on top before fourth-ranked Mike Reilly pinned Dustin Stough (Friendsville, MD/Northern Garrett) and King's went back up 19-16. Another forfeit at 184 gave Wilkes the 22-19 lead heading into the final bout.

The Colonels (15-10-2) will look to get their regular starters back out on the mats as they head into the Metro championships next Sunday at King's.
