WILKES-BARRE –
Matt Kachurak (Mountain Top/Crestwood) shot a one-over par 73 and the Colonels posted a 327 in Wilkes University's men's golf tri-match losses to the University of Scranton and William Paterson University on Tuesday afternoon at the Municipal Golf Course in Wilkes-Barre. Scranton finished with a match-best 297 while Paterson came in with a 325.
Kachurak's total was tied for second best on the day and was his second best round of the spring season.
Seth Bartlett (Montgomery/Montgomery), seeing his first action of the year, finished second on the team with a seven-over 79.
Michael Turano (Browndale/Forest City Regional) finished with an 82 while
Darren Mensch (Muncy, PA/Muncy) shot a 93 in his only first round this spring.
Brad Sparks of Scranton shot a one-under 71 on the day to lead all golfers. Scranton's Justin Riley came in with a 73 and Chriss Schank finished with a 75.
None of Paterson's golfers were able to break 80.
This was the final action for the Colonels as they prepare for the 2011 Middle Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championships this coming weekend in Hershey. Day one of the 62nd annual tournament is set to get underway from Hershey Country Club at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday.
