WILKES MEN'S SOCCER DROPS 1-0 DECISION AGAINST #17 MUHLENBERG
EDWARDSVILLE – Despite a valiant effort from junior goalie Dave Marr (Muncy, PA/Warrior Run) in net, Wilkes University dropped a tough 1-0 decision to #17 Muhlenberg College Wednesday night in non-conference action from the Ralston Athletic Complex.
With the loss Wilkes slips to 1-2 on the year, while Muhlenberg remains perfect at 4-0.
Marr was the story of the first half, posting nine saves including several point-blank Mule attempts. Muhlenberg finally found the back of the net scoring their first goal late in the first half when Danny Way setup Jonathan Schauer with a through ball to the left of the box beating Marr to the inside left post.
The teams battle evenly in the second half with each squad garnering scoring chances throughout. Marr came up big on several occasions with spectacular saves to keep the game within reach. The Colonels offense was unable to find the equalizer as the Mule defense stiffened and preserved the shutout victory.
Muhlenberg held a 27-4 shot advantage, while garnering three corner kicks to Wilkes' two attempts. Marr finished with 18 saves while Mule keeper Ari Nutovits made one stop to record the win in net.
The Colonels will return to the field Saturday when they host Commonwealth Conference foe Elizabethtown College in the Ralston Athletic Complex at 1:00 p.m.
