WILKES MEN'S SOCCER DOWN BY ELIZABETHTOWN, 2-0
EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting Elizabethtown College split two goals over two halves to post a 2-0 shutout win over Wilkes University in men's soccer action Saturday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
With the loss Wilkes moves to 1-3 on the year, while Elizabethtown improves to 4-1 on the season.
Elizabethtown's Tyler Norton gave the Blue Jays all the scoring they would need in the first half putting home a cross attempt from Zach Lee at the 41:03 mark to take a 1-0 lead. In the second frame, Zach Hollinger took a through ball and beat Colonel keeper Dave Marr (Muncy, PA/Warrior Run) inside the left post to extend the lead to 2-0 with 25:13 left to play. Wilkes was unable to mount any scoring opportunities throughout, as the Blue Jay defense tightened and sealed the non-conference shutout victory.
Elizabethtown held a 22-6 shot advantage, while garnering six corner kicks to Wilkes' two attempts. Marr finished with seven saves in net for Wilkes, while Blue Jay goalie Eric Carr finished with three saves to record the shutout.
Wilkes will be back in action Wednesday when the Colonels take to the road for the first time this season at Penn College. Kick-off is slated for 5:00 p.m.
