WILKES FIELD HOCKEY SUFFERS 5-2 DEFEAT TO ELIZABETHTOWN
EDWARDSVILLE – Elizabethtown's Kendra Hudson scored two goals to lead the visiting Blue Jays over Wilkes University 5-2 Tuesday night in non-conference field hockey action from Schmidt Stadium.
Following the loss, Wilkes falls to 1-3 on the year. Elizabethtown improves to 3-2 on the season.
Elizabethtown struck early with a goal at the 6:19 mark when Erin Meanix found the back of the net to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead. Kathleen Minerva added to the lead with a tally at the 16:00 mark. The visitors would push one more goal across at 31:37 to take a 3-0 lead at the break.
Wilkes' Lauren Ritchey (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) netted her first goal of the year cutting the deficit to 3-1 at the 39:43 mark. Elizabethtown answered with two more goals to push the lead back to 5-1 with just over 30 minutes left in the second half. Brittany Beavers (Indian Head, MD/Henry E. Lackey) would add one more Wilkes goal off a cross from Alisha Bowers (Slatington, PA/Northern Lehigh) to pull the Lady Colonels to within three at 5-2.
Elizabethtown held a 21-4 shot advantage, while garnering nine penalty corners to Wilkes' seven attempts. Wilkes keeper Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, PA/Dallas) finished with seven saves in net, while Jenna Schall (Easton, PA/Freedom) entered in relief to post three stops. Elizabethtown goalie Lindy Hamp made two saves to record the win.
Wilkes will open Freedom Conference play Saturday when they travel to defending Freedom champion Eastern University for a match scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in St. Davids.
