MCANENA'S GOAL LIFTS WILKES MEN'S SOCCER TO 1-0 WIN AT PENN COLLEGE
WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Eric McAnena (Horsham, PA/Abington)'s goal with 56:44 on the clock was all the Colonels needed as Wilkes University posted a 1-0 shutout victory at Penn College Tuesday night in non-conference men's soccer action.
With the win Wilkes moves to 2-3 overall on the year, while Penn College drops to 3-2-2 on the season.
The teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first half as Wilkes held a 9-8 shot advantage in the first frame.
In the second half, McAnena took a ball deflected off the Penn College defense and buried the game-winner past Wildcat keeper Aaron Volz.
Wilkes held a slight 16-14 shot advantage, while each team garnered six corner kicks. Colonel goalie Dave Marr (Muncy, PA/Warrior Run) posted 13 saves to record the shutout in net. Volz made four saves in net for Penn College.
Wilkes will return to action Thursday when they travel to Clarks Summit to take on Baptist Bible at 4:00 p.m.
