WILKES MEN'S SOCCER DROPS 4-1 DECISION AT ELMIRA
ELMIRA, N.Y. – Host Elmira College scored four unanswered goals in the second half to post a 4-1 win over Wilkes University Monday afternoon in non-conference men' s soccer action.
With the loss Wilkes drops to 4-4 overall on the year, while Elmira improves to 2-0.
Eric McAnena (Horsham, PA/Abington) gave Wilkes a 1-0 lead when he found the back of the net off a Jim Moran (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) assist at the 13:25 mark of the first half. The Colonels would take a 1-0 lead into the break despite being outshot 18-4 in the first frame.
From there Elmira scored four unanswered goals to seal the non-league victory. Andre Germano tied the game at 1-1 at 47:17 before adding his second of the contest to give Elmira the lead at 2-1. Later in the half, Matthew Feldman added two insurance goals within a two-minute period as the host Eagles grabbed a 4-1 lead midway through the frame.
Elmira held a commanding 26-10 shot advantage while garnering six corner kicks to Wilkes' four attempts. Wilkes keeper Dave Marr (Muncy, PA/Warrior Run) posted nine saves in net, while Elmira goalie Jared Micheller made four saves to record the win.
Wilkes will return to Freedom Conference play Saturday when they travel to unbeaten Misericordia University at 1:00 p.m.
