WILKES MEN'S SOCCER POSTS 3-0 SHUTOUT WIN OVER GWYNEDD-MERCY
EDWARDSVILLE – Three different Colonel players reached the scoring column in a decisive 3-0 shutout win over visiting Gwynedd-Mercy College in men's soccer action Saturday night at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
With the win Wilkes improves to 1-1 on the year, while Gwynedd-Mercy drops to 1-1.
Wilkes' Andrew Asare (Accra, Ghana/SOS HGIC) put the Colonels on the board early with his second goal of the season to make it 1-0 at the 20:12 mark of the first half. Following the break, Joe Brennan (Oakdale, CT/Montville) cashed in on his first of the season off an assist from TJ Brandt (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia) to make it 2-0 early in the second frame. The final tally came at the 75:54 mark when Eric McAnena (Horsham, PA/Abington) put it home past the Griffins keeper thanks to an assist from Hamad Alkandari (Kuwait City, Kuwait/Abdullah Jaber).
Wilkes held a commanding 24-6 shot advantage, while garnering 14 corner kicks to Gwynedd-Mercy's one attempt. Colonel goalie dave Marr recorded his first shutout of the year in net finsihng with three saves.
Wilkes will return to action Tuesday with a road match at Baptist Bible College at 4:00 p.m.
