Steve Finkernagel Joe Brennan scored on a header to tie the score against Misericordia WILKES MEN’S SOCCER LOSES FREEDOM BATTLE TO MISERICORDIA 2-1 10/17/2012 6:18:00 PM Box Score WILKES MEN'S SOCCER LOSES FREEDOM BATTLE TO MISERICORDIA 2-1 EDWARDSVILLE -- The Wilkes University men's soccer team battled back from a 1-0 deficit late in the second half only to fall 2-1 to top Freedom Conference opponent Misericordia University Wednesday evening at Schmidt Stadium. With the loss, Wilkes falls to 5-9 overall and 1-4 in Freedom play while the Cougars advance to 10-4-2 and 4-0-1 in the Freedom. In the first half, the Cougars capitalized on a defensive mistake by the Colonels to give Derek Antonini a goal in front of an empty net. Down 1-0 late in the second half, the Colonels made a push to even the score. After several opportunities, Joe Brennan (Oakdale, CT/Montville) was able to put Wilkes on the board with a header into the right post. Geoffrey Arentz (Stevens, PA/Lancaster Catholic ) received the throw in, who quickly tipped the ball to Eric McAnena (Horsham, PA/Abington) who then served Brennan the perfectly placed pass. Notched at one apiece, the Cougars scored two minutes later on a Nick vonEgypt goal and then managed to hold on for the remaining three minutes. Dave Marr (Muncy, PA/Warrior Run) had nine stops in goal for the Colonels while Billy Sopko had four saves for the Cougars.
