With the loss, Wilkes falls to 4-4 overall and 3-4 in MAC play while the Warriors improve to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in MAC play. One of the lone bright spots for the Colonels was their scoring drive in the second quarter. Down 7-0, a fourth and eleven forced a Jordan Fredo (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport Area) punt that was muffed when DJ Shuttleworth (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) laid a big hit on Jarrin Campman contributing to a Marcus Leaf (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic) recovery. As a result, The Colonels sustained their drive on Lycoming's 32. After two Patrick Inguli and Nick Dawson (Montoursville, PA/Montoursville) rushes, Tyler Bernstsen broke loose for a 19 yard scramble on a crucial fourth and one. Setting up a first and ten for the Colonels, Ingulli then took a four yard rush into the end zone and a Fredo point after tied the score at seven with 11:59 to go in the second quarter. Campman took revenge on the Colonels by catching a 26 yard touchdown pass along with a Zack Czap point after made it 14-7 Lycoming at the 7:00 mark. Another Tyler Jenny pass, this time to John Sibel for 24 yards and a Czap point after gave the Warriors a 21-7 edge going into halftime. The Warriors used a balance attack and converted on important third downs to take advantage of a tired Wilkes defense in the second half. In their first drive of the half after two rushes for virtually no gain, Jenny then rushed for eleven yards on a third and seven to get the Warriors to their own 37. After a Matt Atkinson rush for five yards and a Craig Needhammer five yard rush, Jenny passed to Ryan Umpleby for a 17 yard pickup and set the Warriors up at the Wilkes 25. On a first and ten, Jenny completed a 25 yard touchdown pass to battery-mate Campman to give the Warriors a controlling 28-7 lead. After a Wilkes three-and-out, the Warriors put together another sufficient drive started at their own 47. On a third and two, Wilkes was called for roughing the passer setting Lycoming up at the Wilkes 30. After two Needhammer rushes, Jenny then scrambled up field seven yards when he was fled from the pocket on a third and six giving the Warriors another big third down conversion. When the Colonels stopped the Warrior rush attack and forced a forth and eleven, Lycoming then sent former All-MAC place kicker Czap back on the field as he converted a 37 yard field goal with 5:15 left to go in the third quarter. Down 31-7, Needhammer used a 14 yard second effort rush to put the Warriors up 38-7. Wilkes was unable to do much of what they wanted in the second half as Fredo punted five times on six Wilke's drives. Berntsten led all Wilkes rushers with 85 yards on 17 rushes while Ingulli gained 51 yards on 18 attempts. On defense Tate Moore-Jacobs (New Cumberland, PA/Cedar Cliff) and Shuttleworth both finished with 12 total tackles with Shuttleworth having one tackle for loss. Wilkes will return to the pitch next week when they travel to Doylestown to play Delaware Valley at 1 p.m. before returning home to finish their season against King's College in the Mayor's Cup.
