WILKES RUSHING ATTACK OVERPOWERS MISERICORDIA IN 45-13 MAC VICTORY ON HOMECOMING

EDWARDSVILLE – Freshman Patrick Ingulli (Hawley, PA/Wallenpaupack) rushed for a career-high 119 yards and two of Wilkes' six rushing touchdowns as Wilkes overpowered local rival Misericordia University 45-13 Saturday at Schmidt Stadium in Middle Atlantic Conference play.

Wilkes improves to 3-2 overall and evens its conference mark at 2-2 following the win. Misericordia still is looking for its first win dropping to 0-6 overall and 0-5 in MAC play.

Despite allowing an opening 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, Wilkes dominated most of the contest using its size and athleticism to overpower the visiting Cougars throughout. Following the Cougar's kickoff return score, Wilkes received excellent field position when the Colonels special teams came up big with a punt block and recovery at the Misericordia 6. Two plays later, Auxence Wogou (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) gave Wilkes a 7-6 lead taking it home from two yards out, the first of six Wilkes rushing touchdowns on the afternoon.

Following a Misericordia three and out, the Wilkes offense took to the ground again using a seven play, 55-yard drive capped off by a Wogou one-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 14-6 with 6:04 left in the first quarter.

The second quarter started where the first left off for the Wilkes offense as the Colonels began a long and promising drive on their own three yard-line. 28 rushing yards from Wogou combined with a 28-yard completion from Alex George (York, PA/West York) to tight end Drew Devitt (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) moved the Colonels to the Misericordia 35. An Andrew Regan (Boonton, NJ/Boonton) 15 yard gain on the ground and five yard George to Ryan Casey (Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan) completion put Wilkes on the Misericordia 9. From there the drive stalled and Wilkes would settle for a 20-yard field goal from Jordan Fredo (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport Area) extending the lead to 17-6 with 5:19 left in the half.

Misericordia answered back before the end of the half with an eight play, 51-yard drive capped off by a Jeff Puckett to Dean Lucchesi touchdown score to cut the Wilkes advantage to 17-13 heading into the break.

The second half proved to be the difference for Wilkes as the Colonels offense continued to wear down the Misericordia defense with long rushing drives. On its opening possession of the second half, Wilkes used both the ground game and aerial attack to move the ball into Cougar territory. George rushed for 10 yards and found Devitt and PJ Incremona (Wood Ridge, NJ/Wood Ridge) for long receptions to setup the Calvin Garvin (Philadelphia, PA/Roman Catholic) one-yard touchdown run to move the Colonels in front 24-13.

Wilkes' next possession was all Ingulli as the rookie running back carried it the entire time going eight times for 61 yards finishing off the drive with a three yard touchdown run to put Wilkes up for good with 7:24 left in the third, 31-13.

Incremona would add his first career touchdown run and Ingulli his second later in the fourth quarter as Wilkes opened up a 45-13 lead midway through the last frame.

As a team, Wilkes rushed for 276 yards and six touchdowns as four different Colonel runners found the end zone at least once. Wogou followed Ingulli with 15 carries for 77 yards and two scores before leaving the game with a knee injury. Garvin (20 yards) and Incremona (13 yards) added a score each on the ground.

George was cool under center managing the game well throwing for 145 yards on 12-for-17 passing. Devitt led the Wilkes receivers with three catches for 56 yards.

Defensively Wilkes was led by junior linebacker Tate Moore-Jacobs (New Cumberland, PA/Cedar Cliff) with 14 tackles and four tackles-for-loss. Tyler Thomas (Easton, PA/Easton) added six tackles and one sack, while Jason Ugwu (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) was dominate on the end contributing five tackles and one pass break-up.

Puckett finished 9-for-11 for 63 yards and one touchdown for Misericordia. The Cougars garnered 117 yards on the ground as Puckett led the way with 46 yards from behind center.

Wilkes travels to Lebanon Valley (3-2, 2-2 MAC) next Saturday for an important MAC matchup scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Annville, Pa.
