With the loss, the Colonels fall to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in Freedom play while DeSales improves to 8-4 and 2-1 in league play. Not a whole lot of action occurred between the two squads in the first half. However, the Colonels defense came up big when Dave Marr (Muncy, PA/Warrior Run) came out of goal to eliminate the crossing option for DeSales. When a shot off the foot of Padraic Farrell was fired toward an open net, Alex Benne (Birdsboro, PA/Daniel Boone) laid out in a winning effort to slice the ball out of the goal's reach and out of bounds. The second half was the complete opposite of the first, busy. After a defensive miscue, Padraic Farrell scored unassisted to give himself his sixth goal of the season. Farrell earned himself another point when he sent a dish to Tyler Nolan off a corner kick. Wilkes got on the board to bring the Colonels to within one when Joe Brennan (Oakdale, CT/Montville) found the net on a cross from Justin Szpilka (Sayville, NY/Connetquot) with 24 minutes left to play in the game. Ten minutes later, DeSales got another header in the net from a throw in to ice the game for the Bulldogs. Wilkes returns to action Saturday when they travel to St. David's to play Eastern at 2:30 p.m. Print Friendly Version
