NO. 13 WILKES WRESTLING GOES 1-3 AT JOHN REESE DUALS

WILKES-BARRE – The No. 13 Wilkes University wrestling team finished 1-3 in four matches at the annual John Reese Duals Saturday in the Marts Center. Wilkes fell 24-15 against Centenary in its opening match, then dropped decisions against NYU (18-16) and Cortland (19-18) before posting a 28-6 win over Johns Hopkins in the final match of the day.

Wilkes moves to 1-3 overall following the dual match round-robin play Saturday.

In the opening match against No. 8 Centenary, Guesseppa Rea scored a 3-0 decision against Anthony Rosamilia at 125 to give the Colonels a 3-0 lead. Myzar Mendoza (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) (133) upped the Wilkes lead to 6-0 following a 9-2 decision over Adam Swift. Kris Krawchuk (Slatington, PA/Northern Lehigh) added a pin of Craig Montgomery at 149-pounds, and Matthew Transue grabbed a 5-2 decision at 197. Centenary swept the rest of the 10 bouts (six decision wins) to earn a 24-15 victory.

In the match against NYU, Sean Lombardi (Newton, NJ/Kittatiny) (11-3), Transue (5-3), and William Fletcher (Ottsville, PA/Palisades) (3-2) were all decision winners for Wilkes. Dustin Stough (Friendsville, MD/Northern Garrett) pinned Chris Amro at 174-pounds in the Colonels other victory against NYU.

Rea recorded his second win of the afternoon in the match against No. 7 Cortland pinning Paul Fields. Krawchuk recorded a 4-2 decision at 149 and Mason McIntyre (Bethlehem, PA/Easton) posted his first collegiate victory at 157 with a 6-2 decision over Andre Berry. Marlon Duque (Boonton, NJ/Boonton) (3-1) and David Oberrender (5-4) rounded out the decision winners for Wilkes against Cortland.

The Colonels lone win on the day against No. 18 Johns Hopkins saw Wilkes win eight of 10 bouts on way to an easy 28-6 win. Ryan Smith (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale), McIntyre, Krawchuk, Nathan White (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill), Stough, Oberrender, and Fletcher all scored wins for the Colonels.

Wilkes returns to the mat Friday when the Colonels travel to Elizabethtown College for dual match scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
