WILKES TAKES HOME TWO INDIVIDUAL TITLES FINISHES SECOND AT MONARCH INVITATIONAL

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University wrestling team took home two individual titles finishing in second place in the Monarch Invitational Saturday at King's College's Scandlon Gymnasium.

The Colonels posted 137 points only trailing SUNY Cortland at the top of the herd with 147 points. In all, 13 Colonels finished in the top 6 or better in their respective weight classes.

Guesseppe Rea (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) and Myzar Mendoza (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) snagged individual titles for the Colonels at the 125 and 133 pounds respectively.

Rea took home the 125 pound championship with a victory over York's Kenny Arentz 9-2.

Mendoza took home the 133 pound title with a 9-0 decision over SUNY Cortland's Alec Dierna. Mendoza cruised to the championship match with one fall and two decisions.

Brad Royle (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) took home fourth place with a 9-4 win over Jacob Goddeau in the 141 pound bracket.

Kristopher Krawchuk claimed victory in a tough 4-3 match with teammate Sean Lombardi (Newton, NJ/Kittatiny) to claim fourth and fifth place finishes at 149.

Nathan White (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill) placed fifth at 165 with a victory by fall over York's Thomas Demetrio.

Dustin Stough (Friendsville, MD/Northern Garrett) placed second at 174 falling to top-point finisher SUNY Cortland's Lou Puca. Stough managed to rack up three victories by fall on his way to the championship match.

Eric Bach (Newton, NJ/Kittatiny) took home fourth place at 184 with a win by fall over teammate Levi Veppert (Kempton, PA/Northwestern Lehigh). Consequently, Veppert then fell in a tough 3-2 match to York's Jeff Goldhagen and went home with a sixth place finish.

At 197, Matthew Transue and David Oberrender finished in fourth and fifth place respectively. Oberrender beat King's Ryan Longenberger 19-6 while Transue defeated Longenberger 8-6.

At 285, William Fletcher (Ottsville, PA/Palisades) and Michael Shannon finished second and third respectively. Fletcher cruised by fall to the championship round where he fell 3-1 to York's Mike Spencer. Shannon won third place by fall.

The Colonels hit the mats again next Saturday when they host the John Reese Duals.
