NO. 5 ITHACA SCORES 20-16 WIN OVER NO. 19 WILKES WRESTLING
 
WILKES-BARRE – No. 5 Ithaca College used a decision win in the heavyweight bout to claim a 20-16 victory over No. 19 Wilkes University Friday night in the Marts Center in a battle of two nationally ranked squads.
 
Wilkes drops to 15-4 overall on the year snapping an 11-match win streak in the process. Ithaca improves to 12-2 on the season following the dual win.
 
Michael Fleck (Easton, PA/Wilson Area) opened things with a 9-1 major decision at 125 earning his 29th victory in the process. Myzar Mendoza (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) recorded a forfeit at 133 to push the Colonel lead to 10-0 after two bouts. Ryan Wilson (Manasquan, NJ/Wall Township) kept the Wilkes shutout intact, 13-0, at 141-pounds with a 4-1 decision over Alex Gomez.
 
A major decision for Ithaca at 149-pounds cut the Colonel lead to 13-4 with six bouts remaining. At 157, Matthew Ellery held a slight 5-4 advantage late in the third period over Derek Brenon, but a late takedown gave the Bombers the decision to pull Ithaca to within six, 13-7. Ithaca's Nick Sanko scored a tough 2-1 decision over Nathan White (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill) using riding time claim the victory at 165 as the Bombers trailed 13-10.
 
Ithaca's Jules Doliscar, the #1 ranked wrestler at 174, scored a major decision win over Dustin Stough (Friendsville, MD/Northern Garrett) to put the Bombers on top for the first time on the night, 14-13. At 197, with the match tied at 1-1, David Oberrender used a late takedown with :33 left in the final frame to secure the 3-1 decision bringing the Colonels to within one, 17-16 with one bout left.
 
In the deciding bout at 285, Ithaca's Matt Mahon sealed the match for the Bombers with a tough 4-3 decision over William Fletcher (Ottsville, PA/Palisades).
 
Wilkes will need to regroup quickly with a quad match at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland tomorrow starting at 12:00 p.m.
