NO. 8 WILKES WRESTLING GOES 2-0 AT METRO DUALS

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ – Fresh off its first top ten ranking in over ten years, the No. 8 Wilkes University wrestling team moved its dual match win streak to eleven posting two wins at the Metropolitan Duals Saturday at Centenary College. The Colonels opened with a strong 29-9 win over No. 9 Delaware Valley, before claiming a 38-3 victory over Hunter College in their final match of the three round event.

Wilkes moves to 11-3 overall on the year following the pair of victories.

In the decisive win over No. 9 DVC, Wilkes posted victories in seven of the ten bouts including two major decisions and two falls. #8 Myzar Mendoza (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) moved his overall mark to 21-4 with a 9-0 major decision over David Davidson at 133. Jeff Peterson (Edison, NJ/Edison) continued his fine stretch of wrestling claiming a 6-1 decision over Dale Fava one bout later at 141.

In what was billed as one of the top bouts of the afternoon at 149-pounds, #7 Mark Hartenstine (Easton, PA/Easton) posted a 7-3 decision over #1 Emmanuel Ajagbe (21-2) handing Ajagbe his second loss of the season. At 157-pounds, #5 Kris Krawchuk (Slatington, PA/Northern Lehigh) pinned James Dugan in 4:30 to move to 18-2 on the year giving Wilkes a 16-3 advantage after five bouts.

Nathan White (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill) earned a 5-0 decision at 165 and Eric Bach (Newton, NJ/Kittatiny) collected his eighth win of the year with an 8-0 major decision over Connor Gabriel. William Fletcher (Ottsville, PA/Palisades) rounded out the Colonel winners pinning Mike Boardman in 1:30 at 285 to seal the win for Wilkes.

In the match against Hunter, Wilkes posted wins in nine of ten bouts including five extra point victories.

At 133, Myzar Mendoza (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) collected his second major decision on the afternoon with a 12-1 win over Kenny Albert. After Peterson (141) and Hartenstine (149) decision wins, Krawchuk posted a major decision at 157 with a 14-1 victory over Jesse Capello-Colon.

Mason McIntyre (Bethlehem, PA/Easton) and Dustin Stough (Friendsville, MD/Northern Garrett) each collected decision wins, while Dave Oberrender (Freeland, PA/Hazleton) (major decision), Bach (pin) and Fletcher (pin) rounded out the Colonel winners.

Wilkes will be back in action next Saturday when the Colonels compete at the Messiah Open in Grantham, Pa. at 10:00 a.m.
