Colonels Notebook • Wilkes enters this weekend's action winners of 11 straight dual matches dating back to mid November. The Colonels are ranked in the top ten nationally for the first time under head coach Jon Laudenslager. • Wilkes travels to Grantham, Pa. for the Messiah Open Saturday with wrestling to begin at 10:00 a.m. Last season, Wilkes enjoyed a strong showing at the Open crowning six champions and 11 top six finishers at the event. • On Sunday, the Colonels return home to host a quad match in the Marts Center with RIT, Mount Saint Vincent, and Washington & Jefferson. First round action begins at 11:00 a.m. • The Colonels, ranked No. 8, posted a 32-9 win over East Stroudsburg University in their home dual debut (1/9/13) winning eight of ten bouts to record their ninth straight victory. • The Colonels have 25 wrestlers who have notched at least five wins this season as well as 21 wrestlers with .500 or better marks. • Three Wilkes wrestles are ranked nationally in the latest NWCA individual rankings. At 133, junior Myzar Mendoza (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) (22-4) is tabbed eighth, while redshirt sophomore Mark Hartenstine (Easton, PA/Easton) (11-1) is ranked seventh at 149-pounds and junior Kris Krawchuk (Slatington, PA/Northern Lehigh) (19-2) was selected fifth at 157 after moving up a class midway through this season. • Matt Transue (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) (15-8) was tabbed a contender at 197-pounds in the latest d3wrestle.com rankings on Wednesday to round out the Colonels with individual honors. • WU had a strong performance at the 80th annual Wilkes Open on December 28th.
